New Resident FAQ's

What should I do after I purchase a home in MISSION ESTATES?
  • Log in to the Mission Estates Website (mehoa.org) to access community and resident information
  • Read the Amended & Restated Declaration of Restrictions and Amended and Restated Bylaws to understand and abide by the rules that govern the community
  • Locate the three bulletin boards located in the common areas in the community (Capistrano Drive, Sonoma Drive West by the pond and Sonoma Drive East by the wetland). These bulletin boards are used in addition to the website to post hardcopy information, such as meeting notices and newsletters in the community
  • Get to know the neighborhood by walking, bicycling or driving through the community

What are the guidelines for the property appearance and maintenance?
  • It is the responsibility of each resident to maintain the appearance of their property. The Amended & Restated Declaration of Restrictions require that lots with homes thereon be consistently maintained in a neat and attractive condition, such as clean roofs, driveways and sidewalks and maintained landscaping.

Who do I call if I plan on digging in my yard for a project I'm working on?
  • Call 811 before every digging project, big or small. Neighborhood utilities will mark any underground lines in your yard free of charge.

Can I keep my trash and/or recycling containers in front of my garage?
  • Trash/recycling containers are not to be visible from the public view on non-pick-up days. Once the trash provider has picked up the trash/recycling, the containers must be relocated to the garage or otherwise removed from public view as soon as practical.

Where can I get the recycling bins?
  • Contact Waste Management
  • Recycle bins: for new, additional or replacement bins.
  • New resident move-ins: there is a one-time courtesy pick-up of your cardboard boxes.

Who do I call if I need to refurbish, repair or  replace my mailbox?

Refurbishment or replacement of mailboxes will require architectural approval through the Association's Board.  The size, location, design of and the type of material used must be approved by the Association.

The company which will refurbish, repair or replace the mailbox is called Nostalgic Lampposts & Mailboxes Plus.  You can call Mike Burkhardt at (941) 223-1677 and he will provide the approved size/style/design of mailbox required.  Approved address numbers are also available.  Nostalgic Lampposts & Mailboxes Plus has the mold to manufacture additional mailboxes, thus they will always be available for repairs or replacement if needed.

What are the restrictions on watering and irrigation?

All restrictions guidelines are determined by the Southwest Florida Water Management District with the exception of the allowable irrigation days which are set by the Sarasota County Commission. Residents and visitors are required to comply with all water restrictions. Violators may be subject to fines without warning.

Are Solicitors allowed in the community, and what do I do if they come to my home?

The Association has placed a sign near the front entrance stating that Solicitors are not allowed.  Each individual property owner has the right to restrict access to their property.  Furthermore, MEHOA has a "No Trespass Agreement" with the Sarasota County Sheriff's office, regardless of a solicitor's permit. I will have visitors staying with me for awhile and I don't have room for him to park in my garage or on my driveway.  What are the requirements for street parking?

In general, vehicle parking is not permitted on the streets of Mission Estates.  You could be subject to a fine.  Reference: Article 9.9 of the
Amended & Restated Declaration of Restrictions.  Certain situations may qualify for a temporary waiver.

What is a Restricted Vehicle?

Some vehicles are not permitted parking on driveways, such as commercial vehicles and trucks, including pick-up trucks.  The definition of "Restricted Vehicle" may be found in Article 1.27 of the Declaration of Restrictions. These and other restricted vehicles must be parked in a garage. Reference: Article 9.9 of the
Amended & Restated Declaration of Restrictions.
